Chapter 4 – “But we were close friends.”
Today was a busy day. Trunks being last minutely packed, Mrs. Weasley screaming at the twins being idiots for bewitching trunks to travel on their own, and Crookshanks still chasing gnomes around, and Ron misplacing his books and quills. Jade loved being able to join the hustle of the first day of school.
Getting to King’s Cross wasn’t easy either. Mr. Weasley did rent ministry cars this year, just for the occasion that Fred and George wanted to tag along too. They all fit impossibly, but comfortably in one car, and started again discussing quidditch strategies. They finally reached King’s Cross with much hassle, for some odd reason, there were a lot more muggles running a muck around the station. So they all casually leaned upon the entrance and slid in. They got there early, with 15 minutes to spare.
“Jade, lets go find a compartment first and well say goodbye to mum afterwards.” Ron shoved his trunk up the steps of the train, at the same time, pushing Harry and his trunk through the many students already aboard.
“Write at least once a week for any updates. And be careful, take care of your sister Ron! Harry, Jade, darlings, please to take care and don’t forget…FRED! DO NOT HAND OUT THOSE THINGS AT THE STATION!” Mrs. Weasley caught Fred giving out Filibuster’s Fabulous No-Heat, Wet-Start Fireworks. Jade, Hermione and Ginny gave little giggles while Harry and Ron poorly hid their laughs.
“Keep whispering our names and our shop will ya?” Fred said through the screams of his mother.
“Make sure they actually hear ‘em.” George added, winking at Jade. Who, Harry saw, started to blush.
“Alright you lot, take care now.” Mr. Weasley waved as the train started to move slowly as Mrs. Weasley wiped Ron’s face through the windows. You could hear little snickers from unnoticeable students upon the train. With a last goodbye and Ron irritably saying, “Mum,” Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Fred and George were out of sight.
They moved towards their compartments feeling quite exhausted. Ron was twitching his nose quite constantly, he stopped when he noticed that Hermione, Ginny, Harry, and Jade were looking at him with a funny look.
“What? It feels like mum ripped my nose off with that napkin.” He looked out the train window. It was a beautiful day, the shadows of trees and mountains were swimming in the sunlight that was bursting from the cloudless sky. Ginny and Hermione were attempting to groom Crookshanks who seemed like he didn’t mind, Harry was polishing his wand, he never did before but he wanted to notice the difference. And Jade was fiddling around with her fingers.
“Oh no!” Jade jumped up, holding one of her ears.
“What’s the matter with your ear? Fred but anything in it?” Ron laughed at his own joke.
“No, I lost one of my earrings. It probably fell with Hedwig’s cage passed my head.” She looked on the floor of the compartment, so did Hermione and Ginny. Harry and Ron didn’t understand what was so important about an earring.
“You don’t understand? Those earrings were the result of my first use of magic alchemy.” She looked even more.
”Magic alchemy? There’s such a thing?” Ron looked at Harry, hoping he understood, he didn’t.
”Yes, when you fuse two things together using alchemy and magic.” Hermione said in a matter-of-factly tone.
”I’m going to check out in the hall, maybe its there.” Jade left the compartment, leaving them with Hermione telling them more about magic alchemy.
Jade frustratingly looked upon the floors of the train, hoping to find a slight glimmer of her piece of jewelry. She probably wondered only a few compartments ahead when she saw something shining around a corner. She hurriedly picked it up, it was her earring. Hastily putting it on, she headed back towards the rest of the group, only to be halted by a rush of three busting out of a compartment.
“Excuse me!” Jade screamed at them. She knew there were three of them who came out of the compartment but the third one was covered by two large boys. They had a nasty look upon their faces. “Aren’t you going to apologize? You almost flipped me over!” said Jade. She was exaggerated it a bit, but it surprised her, she just wanted to her an apology.
“Apologize? I, apologize to you? A lowlife with no sense of direction?” The third boy spoke, still not showing his face.
“Sense of direction? How can I have no sense of direction when you’re the fool who blundered into me!” She was getting furious, all she wanted was to sit down and have a couple of laughs with her friends. At last, the rude boy pushed aside his posse and showed his face. He had blond sleek hair and a pointed face. His eyes showed a gleam of evil but it was probably just the light. He was looking foul at Jade when suddenly he looked questioningly. Jade also looked closely at him, she knew who he was.
“Draco? Draco Malfoy? Is that you?” She walked closer to the boy named Draco. He raised an eye brow at Jade and smiled.
“Jade, Jade Riddle. You’re finally at Hogwarts.” Draco smirked and signaled his posse, Crabbe and Goyle, to back off. “I haven’t seen you in ages, how has it been?” He crossed his arms.
“Actually, Draco…” Jade started but was interrupted by Harry, Ron, and Hermione busting threw Crabbe and Goyle, pushing aside Draco.
“That mudblood touched me!” Draco looked as though something poisonous was dripping along his sleeve. Hermione gave the same look towards him.
“What are you doing to Jade, Draco?” Harry pointed his wand at the straightening up Draco. Jade was surprised at this reaction.
“Harry? What are you doing? You don’t like Draco?” Jade innocently asked Harry, seriously not knowing what was going on.
There was an eerie silence, just the movement of the train can be heard. Draco snickered after a couple of seconds, he looked as though he was getting a treat out of this situation.
“Little Jade has made friends with Harry Potter. And his little fan club. How ironic.” Draco placed his hands on his hips, still snickering.
“How do you know Jade?” Harry lowered his wand again. His curiosity was getting the better of him.
“Harry, Draco and I used to be close friends. He would come over countless times, and we’d curse rats and whatnots.” Even if Jade was explaining, she looked just at confused as Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Ron’s face contorted into a very confused face as Hermione looked as though her head was to explode, Harry was looked from Draco to Jade, trying to filter what she had just said. “I actually though Big Draco here had a little crush on me.” Jade spoke again, gleaming a bit. Draco looked taken aback for a moment and he smoothly smiled a wicked smile.
“A little crush? Little Jade, we were 9, I still thought you had cooties.” Draco poked Jades shoulder. This just made the trio even more confused. Draco saying “cooties?” Smiling every moment Jade spoke? Smiling period?!
There was a lot more explaining involved, everyone was just too shocked to filter anything.
