Chapter 4
I stepped out of the car and waited for Jin to come out. We walked together into the entrance.
"Oh wait! I want to go buy her flowers, you go on first, I'll be right there." I said.
"Okay, be careful walking around." He said and headed on first. I walked around the corner of the hospital and saw an old lady selling flowers.
"Hello young lady, would you like to buy some flowers? They're fresh from my garden." She said and gave a kind smile. I smiled back and nodded then took a look around. She had roses, daisies, peonies, cherry blossoms, almost all the flowers you can imagine. Mom loved the color purple. So I bought her a big bouquet of lilacs.
"First emotions of Love" She said, were what lilacs meant. Each flower has it's own meaning. Dad taught her that. I've never had the pleasure to meet him myself, he was gone before I was born. With so many stories mom told me about him, it was like he was never gone. She also said he wasnt like any man she'd ever met before. He never gave her roses like any man did, always lilacs. That's what made their love so special.
The door slid open, "Hi mom! I brought you something!" I said. Then handed her the bouquet of lilacs.
"Awww, thank you sweetie." She said and took the flowers from my hands. She looked at them deeply and I knew she was thinking of dad. Her eyes told it all.
It was hard. To look at my mom day by day. Partly because she was growing older, and I still had the image of her holding my hands walking home from school. But mostly because she grew old by herself.
People never really appreciate aging. When you can grow old with someone, it's such a pleasure that's been overlooked by marjority. But mom, she grew all by herself. I really don't know how she did it. I don't think I can imagine all the pain she went through.
I looked over at Jin, who by now was being nosy all over the room. He picked up a bobble head and tapped it's head lightly and smiled at the wobbling head. I don't think I can deal with the pain if I were to loose Jin.
"So Miwa, how's school?" She asked.
"It's been good. Same as always." I replied.
"It's your senior year, aren't you excited? I know I was when I was your age." She said.
"Haha, yea I know you were, cause grampa told you that you can only marry dad if you graduate." I said and smiled.
"Haha, you know everything don't you." She said.
"I wonder who told me ;]. But I'm pretty excited about graduation." I said.
"I just hope I'll be well enough to attend." She said.
"Mom don't say that. I know you'll definately be there." I said and she lightly smiled.
Mom was hospitalized when I was very young. She was a witness of a bank robbery when the police came before the robbers could escape, they took the closest person, sadly was her, and threw her out a 1 story building as a threat.
The doctor said it was a miracle she lived, although half of her body is now paralyzed. But that wasn't the worse part, when they did tests on her, they found out she had cancer of the blood. And from then on, she never left the hospital.
Once in a while, Jin and I would take her out to eat. But by the end of the day, that was where she had to return.
After spending an hour with mom, Jin and I made our way home. When we were on our way out to the parking lot, a girl was standing by Jin's car. It was dark, and from far away, I couldn't exactly tell who it was.
"Jin, do you see someone by your car?" I asked.
"Yeah, but I don't know who that is. Let's get closer" He said.
Each step we took, revealed a gorgeous girl.
"Hello darling. It's been a while." She said.
