I don't watch dubs anymore, because it loses its orientation. It's like in Japanese, they'll have the name mean one thing, and in English, you completely lose it's meaning because no one can understand the quality of it. I can't stand it when they translate names because they do a lousy job at it, and in the USA they have to censor everything - the blood, the naked parts, sometimes they skip over a scene and you can't follow what just happened.
I rather watch it with subs, because every bit of it is maintained and the people who but subtitles are kind enough to sometimes let you know when they are mentioning stuff pertaining to Japanese culture. ![]() "We are all in the gutter,

I don't mind either....well, it varies.
My first taste of the DragonBall/Z/GT franchise was the English Dub, (but there were various english dubs, the canadian/british/american ones...), but I also like the Japanese version. As for Initial D, I prefer the japanese version. The American dub was interesting, though. For .hack/sign, I personally like both. |

Yeesh, they have to censor things out? I don't think I've ever seen dubs on anime (besides Spirited Away) but that sucks how they censor things. I agree with Maggie. If you censor things, the whole atmosphere of the anime practically gets erased =/

It can depend on what's being censored, too, Rebecca...
There may be minor innappropriate scenes, (like short cuts of nudity, blood, etc), but if even a few important dialogue sentences are cut out, then yes, it takes away the basic.... "essence", sorta. |

SUBS, hands-down.
That way, it's more authentic. English voices for Japanese roles sound bootlegged. >< I hate it. Even though reading the subtitles is aggravating... I definitely prefer subbed anime. ![]() Say whatever you want, It won't make a difference. But if you scream it to the world, Someone might hear you. |

And plus, the English voice actors don't put nearly enough of themselves into their roles. Their dialogue just sounds awfully monotone and boring, while the Japanese voice actors know what emotions to use and when to use them.
Yeah, authentic. ![]() "Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof." - V
