What types of books are you assigned to read in school, or over your summer vacation?
Do you enjoy them? Why or why not?
Would you rather have picked other books? Do they always follow a theme?
What type of assignments usually follow?

We usually have to read some book that imposes it's moral values on kids, I hate them because.. I'll have whatever morals I want, I don't need some book to tell me what to think.

(Might as well be dead)
You see, I love you
But I have to go

My school is usually pretty good about assigning books to read.
The let us read Freakonomics.
Would I like to have picked better books? Yes, but everyone has their own reading styles.
lol Shoshana, yes you do! You SO need a book to tell you what to read. You can't even decide what flavor soda you want!

We are assigned to read a specified Chinese book each month, and write a book report.
I've never liked that.

How could you describe the colour blue to someone who is blind?

It varies by class and by year, and thus my enjoyment of them varies directly with that. Typically, I don't like non-fiction, but I did like Easts, Shoots & Leaves better the summer before junior year more than I enjoyed, say Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde of this past summer. but then again, I did choose Eats, Shoots and Leaves myself because we got choices then...but meh.
And both of my APUSH books the summer before juior year were pretty good..but I got to choose them too, kind of.

But I thought she said maple leaves..

We were actually never assigned that many books. However, the few I was I assigned I rarely enjoyed. I am most definitely not a fan of literature, and the majority of the books they assigned were literature.

I'm bad at math for two reasons: I'm not good with numbers.

I know, I'm pretty sure you meantioned you were into sci-fi before, Criss.

My school deals mainly with literature, too. I'm more of a contemporary reader, but we do a lot of English literature. Which I'm not too big a fan of. <_<

I'm totally okay with literature, so long as it isn't Wuthering Heights. I never did make it through that book. I actually liked Jane Eyre, though, and everyone else I know hated it.

But I thought she said maple leaves..

I always manage to find a way to like a book assigned to me, in one way or another. Maybe that's just because I tend to look at every single aspect of the book. The last novel I was assigned? Reading Lolita in Tehran. It droned on and on, but the allusions to other literature and just the way Nafisi thinks made me like it. The year before that, I read Cold Sassy Tree. It was a simple read, but it provided another take on funerals that I really enjoyed. To Kill A Mockingbird before that. It's beginning was absolutely horrible and I could not get into it, but it got a lot better and the morals within the novel were brilliant.

Of course, I enjoy literature. I love novels that have a strong theme to them, because the authors bring up a point that I never would have thought about in my entire life and I feel like I've actually accomplished something in reading the novel other than just enjoying it.

Did anyone have to read Life Of Pi? Or Of Mice and Men?
Both amazing books.
