Discuss: The Giver

Well, I personally think this is one of the most amazing books ever written.

I agree. I've read it three times. It's so strange to think of a world where there's no color or music. The most prominent passage of the book for me is when Jonas bikes Gabe away to a different place where there is music. I don't know why.

// Oh, Blogring. Rest in peace.

I think it's amazing that one person thought of this entire story. She CREATED a new . . . world.
The book gives you a lot to think about.

Very good book. It sort of reminds me of that short story, "The Lottery" by some chick whose name I can't remember.

It was required reading for us in sixth grade, however, and many people thought that it wasn't appropriate for eleven and twelve year old children to read and tried to prohibit their children from reading it.

What the hell.

I read that book in 5th grade. What's so inappropriate about it?

I read it in fifth grade too. :]

IT WAS THE BEST FRICKING BOOK EVER! :] I think if I made a top ten list of all the books I read (and I think read somewhere in the hundreds) The Giver would definitely be on the list! :]

I remember that we were reading this book as a class. And in school, I was like, who the heck wants to read this? And, we read the first chapter and it was weird, but I went home and I read the whole book that night. Hehe, in like four hours, nonstop. I seriously came home, did my homework, and just read the book until like 8 PM. Yes, I'm a bookworm. AND IT WAS THE AWESOME-EST BOOK EVAH! :] It was suspenseful and I loved how it was different cause I never really read any science fiction books before.

i miss blogring.

I didn't really like The Giver. Maybe it's because in school we were forced to read it, but I also read Gathering Blue and I just feel like I don't like the author's style of writer. Sure, it was a good story, but it didn't grab me.

I liked Gathering Blue, but compared to the Giver, it was nothing.
Hm, maybe I should re read it.
