Oh, d*mn-- I
know you just didn't...Thanks for sending me the link to this topic, Jenny. This is outrageous.
Where to start?
First of all,

While you talk about your lovely "Extra Curricular Activity" you still dont show how it is a sport!
|
Big mistake. Before, this was just a debate. But with your nice sarcasm and ignorance, you've done gotten on my bad side.

eh.. no band isnt a sport... lol i play the trumpet myself.. and yeah.. i really dont think it takes alot of... exercising.. or useage of muscles... cept for ur arms.. and a diaphram.. lol

Well, then you or your band must not be very good.

What you do is band is you perform and entertain the crowd at half time during the football games.
|
Yeah? Well, last time I checked, people watch football for entertainment as well. So what if they don't look at it as entertainment? Band people don't either.

You have a class that you learn all of this in.

*snorts*
Are you freakin' serious? Class? Bull crap! We just polish things up in class. At my school, we rehearsed as much as the football team, and band camp was probably more intense than their rehearsals. Plus, you have to practice, practice, and practice all on your own personal time! And take private lessons if you want to really succeed.

So not only is band considered an Academic Study, but it is also just considered an extra curricular activity that you do for fun.
|
Really? Where did you get these facts to make this assumption? Let's just say what you said makes sense; it would then contradict all of your comments. Football is just for fun, yeah? Wait, no-- some people do it as a career because football is their life, right? What makes that so different from band, eh? Also, if band is considered only an extra curricular activity, what does that make football? School isn't about football; and since it isn't, that makes it extra curricular. So, if something that's extra curricular isn't a sport, football isn't just as much as band isn't.

Thats why you can play other actual sports while your in band and in not be such a big deal!
|
Really? I know several people who have tried and it is so hard for them. The rehearsal times always clash because guess what? We practice a lot, just as much as the sports teams do. It's also hard because-- at least in a good band-- each member is expected to always be focused and to have practiced on their own time. People who participate in other sports find it difficult to do just that.

I understand that you do go out and do competitions and which down here they are awesome, but thats just you working over time to see if what your band director did was worth it and if you are actually good or not.
|
Seriously now, where did this comment come from? You've obviously never been in band, so you have no right to make that judgement. That isn't even what competitions are about but I wouldn't expect you to know that. You're just like everybody else-- you'll form opinions about matters you don't even know anything about. Next time you bring a debate such as this up, at least know your facts or expect many more comments like this one.
Man, I am so worked up now.... :grrr:
