Very nice topic.
I think that it is based primarily on the predator. I think they prey on whoever they like. They might like the ones that look weak, the ones that are wearing skimpy clothing, they might like the library look, the fashionista look. I honestly don't know who they would choose because I don't know what goes on in the mind of a rapist. But I think that if you were to wear revealing clothes, i dont think it would be like a bilboard to rapists, oh i'm wearing skimpy clothes, i'm asking to be raped. I don't think anybody asks to be raped. When I read this topic, i looked for rape statistics, and this is the one that shocked me. -In the United States, 1.3 women are raped every minute. That results in 78 rapes each hour, 1,872 rapes each day, 56,160 rapes ech month and 683,280 rapes each year. that is about half a million each year... ![]() RIP Christopher Pineda 03.30.2007 Forever in our hearts, our minds and an imprint on our souls. |

women should be able to wear whatever they want without having to feel unsafe...^^like she said they're not calling to be raped just because their skirt may be a little shorter than someone else's
I don't think that clothes have anything to do with victims of rape. It's just as likely that a rapist will go after a woman wearing baggy clothes...rapists just want sex..the want the power...weather they're wearing tight clothing or not. |

And I just thought of a magazine article I had read before: it was about a girl who was at the mall with her mom - she was wearing a short skirt, and some guy followed them around, tagging behind them really closely. It turned out that he was videotaping up her skirt, through a little hole in a bag (if I remember correctly). I think this is kind of similar to the topic I started; one should be have the freedom to walk around in a mall without have to worry about issues of violated privacy like that. Oh, and I meant "provoke," not "evoke." |

Whoa, that's really creepy.
But anyway, I don't think it does. & some people are really insensitive and are like, "Oh, well she shouldn't have been wearing that." I think that's just stupid. Rapists don't only go after girls wearing more revealing clothing. ![]() http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/4...egantcostu.gif I used to be fadeawayx & now I am elegant costume ♥ |

A girl shouldn't get raped because of what she's wearing... I think it all depends on the rapist, not the victim.

Well, it really depends on the person who is um.. the rapist. I can just say that some clothes are very provocative. Why would you wear something that has alot of cleavage and get mad at a male if he his eyes happen to linger there for more than 5 secs? It's unfortunate but its kind of well, nature. Animals mate, physical attraction = more of a want to well do something. I mean look at the way peacocks mate, they only mate or have a real urge to mate with those who have the nicest feathers.
However, I do say that that is no real excuse to rape a person. I think that it does depend on the mentality in how it thinks as well as its strength to resist. There are many stories out there of rapists who before they committed the crime, seemed like really nice people. In all other cases, a person has some issues, like a man who tried to rape a 75 year old woman earlier this year. It could be some trauma that he recieved when he was a kid. The mind is a very complicated thing, and for that reason, we may never really understand what goes on in a rapist's mind. ![]() "Oh please, guns don't kill you, the government does." - Dale Gribbel King of the Hill |

As irritating as most girls are that dress so scantily (I find a lack of modesty to be very unappealing), no, it's not their fault if they are sexually assaulted. It is the fault of those who cannot control themselves sexually.
Rape isn't even really about sex. If that was the case, they could just masturbate. Rape is really about the violence. ![]() "A government that can provide everything for you can also take everything away." I was going to reply, until I saw what Sir Molasses had said. I completely agree with him-- I couldn't have said it better myself. Wearing such clothing doesn't promote rape, but it does promote lustful thoughts, which can lead to rape. In the end, though, it's down to the individual.

Yes, Molasses is right. Rape is about power and control, as is sexual abuse and any kind of abuse. It's not simply about sex.
I heard in my health class last summer that they took a survey of prisoners, and actually, they found that most of the rapists looked for long hair, or hair in a pony-tail, that could easily be grabbed; and that they considered baggy clothing an advantage, because again, it would be easy to grab. Skimpy clothing doesn't have anything to do with it. Nobody is "asking" to be raped if they wear a low-cut shirt. Sexual abuse is NOT the fault of the victim, it's completely the fault of the abuser. |
