I know quite a few people who strongly believe that porn is wrong and should be banned. Do you agree? Back your opinions up with valid reasons.

Although I personally don't enjoy porn, I think it would violate our rights if it was made illegal. As long as the people featured in porn aren't under-age, I don't see the big deal.

I know a lot of people want it illegal because it's immoral, or "demoralizing our society," which is completely stupid. Who says it's immoral? You? Your religion? Just because it's against your beliefs doesn't mean it should be illegal. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Discuss.

I'm bad at math for two reasons: I'm not good with numbers.

The banning of porn is against [edit]1st amendment rights, as well as the violation of rights for the free and equal exchange of information and material.

Porn isn't a new thing either, the Japanese posessed hentai in the Dynasty era.

The decision to watch porn is a personal choice. And it's just that, personal. Just because you don't approve or like it, doesn't mean many other people will agree.

If people would try and ban porn because it's "harmful", shouldn't they be hitting smoke-free laws a little harder with support, then?

Have a Suggestion? Send me a pm!

Ban it? No. Add some tighter restrictions? By all means, please do. I despise porn.

The banning of porn is against 5th amendment rights, as well as the violation of rights for the free and equal exchange of information and material.
Text of the 5th amendment:

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

I think you may be thinking of the 1st amendment.

I'd like to hear what people have to say AGAINST pornography before saying anything in defense of it. I'd like to see someone make a good case against it.

"A government that can provide everything for you can also take everything away."

"People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs."

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." -Stephen Roberts

I believe that porn is wrong but I do not believe that porn should be illegal.
The people featured in pornography make their choices and the people who watch it may watch it.
Like a friend said, what might work for me, isn't going to necessarily work for someone else... and I respect that.

Personally, I hate porn. The idea of men watching it while in a relationship makes me furious, unless the female gives her consent on watching it.
I think that its disrespectful to the female in the relationship.
My thought on it is... that the male isn't getting enough from his current relationship. That he may want more.

Most males fantasize of being with the women in the porn and they dream of being the male. Why not just find someone else, right?

I see no pleasure from watching porn, but many men do.

So, no, I don't think porn should be banned. I think that it should just become harder for one to access.

I'm sure women also fantasize about being with someone else. But you make it seem as if only men watch porn, and only men fantasize.

'Tis not true...

And porn is really no different than prostitution, so shouldn't that be made legal too?

Nevada makes more money with legalized prostitution than California spends on trying to get rid of it.

I don't believe it should be made illegal, but I agree with the_cheat. Maybe some tighter restrictions would help prevent underage people looking at it.

And I will post more tomorrow, I have to go to bed.

Making something less in the reach of underage people makes it more tempting.

MTV Jacka.ss disclaimer...people admitted trying some of the things they saw on TV because of the disclaimer...although I don't know why

I understand your point of view, and I applaud you for making your personal belief the reason why it should be banned.

In response to your opinion, I feel that something should definetely be established in a relationship regarding porn. I personally would not have a problem with my boyfriend watching porn (although I don't have that problem, as my boyfriend doesn't watch), but it would be nice if he asked my opinion on it once our relationship progressed to a serious point in it.

Anyway. I do not think it should be illegal. I don't watch, but I don't think that others should be restricted from watching. The only thing I dislike is the way it just pops up everywhere. I was searching for "sakura" today on Google (the Japanese word for "cherry blossom" - I wanted a new wallpaper) and what shows up on page 5? Hentai.

I do feel that should be controlled, as a young child who may have to do schoolwork related to something like that could stumble upon porn. Yes, there are safe searches, but those do not always work. Porn should definetely be available on the internet, but there should definetely be tighter restriction on it.

I definitely agree that the mass-marketing of porn (especially internet porn) needs to be decreased. Too often, pornographic ads pop up on family-friendly websites. This needs to stop - I don't want my little brother seeing things of adult nature. He still does, unfortunately.. despite my best efforts, ads will undoubtebly pop up on a computer no matter how many anti-ad programs and accessories you have.

As for print/video porn, I like how most places operate. Most porn (at least in this area) can be found at adult shops, where you must be eighteen to enter (ID is checked at the door.) There are a few convenience stores that sell pornographic material; however, it is behind the counter and has a special cover to where the front of the magazine cannot be seen.
