Happy Valentine's Day
To everyone ready to spend a day devoted to love and care, I commend you, and wish you well this February 14th.
To the conglomerate of business, and the careless fools who've gotten caught up in the paradigm of the "Love-Money" relationship, here are a few words.
Importance
St. Valentine's Day is important.
From the festivities of love, to the memory of Martin Luther King Jr and the leaps and bounds made toward racial equality, February is a month to truly look forward to. And on the fourteenth, we find the one day that singles out the couples, and truly celebrate love and kindness to your significant other. Someone who got you through the worst of days, and brought you up to the happiest of lifetimes. There's a lot to be said on the special bond couples share.
I, for one, am eternally grateful that I can spend my Valentine's with friends, exes, and family. The fact that I've gotten along so well with all my of former girlfriends is nothing short of a miracle. So, let's sit back and bask in the glory that is the season of love.
Or, you know, not. I had the (mis)fortune of visiting Wal-Mart today. Every aisle with candy, cards, or cheer was packed. Amongst the crowds, the hustle, bustle, and general Valentine's cheer were empty shelves ravaged of all of the sentiments. Somewhere between the general good cheer and love that comes along with February, we've somehow found a different unifying cause during the Valentine Season.
Money.
Spend it on jewelry, candy, cards, or the most tangible sentiments you can find, but it's being spent in the name of love. Apologies if I've lost touch with my sense of humanity when people tell me their greatest concern this season is finding the right gift for that perfect someone they're seeing right now. So instead of making plans to spend all day with their significant other, they're worrying about how they're going to find a Valentine's card this late. So they dodge their love all day, searching for what? A trinket of love and affection?
But you must spend your hard earned money, because it's Valentine's Day!
So the big, monolithic corporations sell billions of dollars in season's givings, and consumers from Argentina to Zimbabwe empty their pockets in search of the one, true meaning of love. Which is gifts, of course.
And gift giving is the most important part, because it's Valentine's Day!
Screw the love, screw the togetherness, screw the passion, screw the world. It's about three things: Money, Money, and Money. Because doesn't money carry more than just the monetary value as dictated by law? It's a symbol of love, and dedication. If you're willing to lay it all down the line, then you're willing to show that you love. “Money is no object,” still rings true. Money is no object, money is the object. So, let's set aside our love and pick up our wallets.
Love is not the answer, money is, because it's Valentine's Day.
So, let's all get together, watch a movie, enjoy a candlelit dinner to compliment the picnic in the park hours before. After that, we can sit down on the mountaintop view, content to wordlessly share the unspoken love. Because love like that doesn't need to be voiced.
But, remember that this will never happen, because it's Valentine's Day...

The statement below is true.
