Theater Masks, Theater Masks
A theater mask, a theater mask!
In its porcelain beauty we do love to bask
Oh what a grand theater the heavens have come to create
With our pallor so great
Seven painted smiles seven years too late
Do you have a theater mask too?
I’m sure you do!
Because we all must dance, dance
Lest we die by watery winks, we prance, must prance
Holding hands in a harem of designed chance
A smile, a laugh, what shall it be?
Oh, it matters not. This ivory glee
shan’t shift, even under the flickering candle flame
The play remains a game, a game
In which we will win or be maimed
Curtains, curtains! I grow weary, please close!
But—yes, I know. This is the life I chose.
