wrote one for the first time in a while. I wrote it without changing anything.. it sounds a little... childish for me, but anyway, I still like it.
I open my eyes to the sight of stained fabric
and the distant smell of yesterday's shampoo
now drowned in the mass of fluff
that is my ancient pillow.
I roll over onto my side and curl into a ball
and tug the sheets tighter up to my chin.
My feet awkwardly fumble and move about
searching for the best warm spot.
I toss and turn and flip onto my back,
and my body is ensnared in the blanket's grip.
I reach up to wipe the crust from my eyes
and squint at the fading darkness.
I close my eyes and will myself to sleep
and dream another vivid dream,
where I can love, fly, and feel no pain-
but my mind is wide awake.
I smile at the thought of a hot breakfast
and an unfinished book waiting by my side.
But I stop, clear my dry throat,
and whisper my morning's greetings to Him.
I swing my legs over the side of the bed,
and my head is still nestled in comfort.
I slowly ease down onto the carpet floor
only to crumple in a heap feetfirst.
I sheepishly grin and pull myself up,
wincing at my sore, bent arms and legs.
With an admiring glance at the sunrise,
I turn and walk towards the day ahead.
