The brightest kid in school might be able to get into whatever profession s/he wants, but whether or not they have the emotional maturity to cope is another thing all together. Just so long as you go well enough to do what you want to in the future (ie, going well enough to get into the college and couse you want to go), this is enough. And after you are in college or doing whatever it is you want to do, noone is going to care what your grades were. Your grades count for one year of your life. That is it. Don't stress over it. Your mum obviously wants you to succeed in life but you need to realise that success isn't always equated in terms of money and career, but happiness and well-being. So I'm not encouraging you to be a bum, but don't feel pressure because of what other people want you to become. The only person whose feelings count in this is you. It is highly unreasonable of your mum to make you feel so worthless. So if you feel your grades are too low, do something about it. If you feel that you are doing your best, say it! But they're not the be all and end all of life. |

Grades dont really measure your intelligence but if you are playing on going to a good college or college at all you need good grades and good sat scores.
Try your best, try to do all your homework, and study for tests, and pay attention in class especially if its math. dear dear algebra ill be revisting you this year. Some concepts or ways to do things, paragraph structure, and basic facts may be hard to remember but you can do anything you put your mind to. ![]() |

Grades really aren't everything. To get into good colleges and be succesful in the future, you have to be a well-rounded person. If you just have intelligence and nothing else, chances are you might not get into that Ivy Leauge or the school you're aiming for.
I have good grades and my mom doesn't seem to mind if i get good grades or not. Just as long as i try my best. It's ME that gets nervous and worried when i have a B on my report card. Paranoid i know! I love to feel that feeling of satisfaction that i did my best and got good grades. what you're mom said was out of line, but im sure she didn't mean it. She only wants what's good for you. I hope you feel better about it because you did you're best and that's all that should matter. ![]() [b]I stated my opinion, don't like it? Too bad. Deal with it. |

If you're in high school, grades matter. Colleges look at your GPA and SAT score to see whether they should accept you or not. Unfortunately, good grades are necessary for a good life (unless you don't mind working at like McDonalds for the rest of your life, like someone else has mentioned).
I'm sure your mom doesn't really mean all of that. Like many people ahve mentioned, she just wants you to have a good life and be successful. My parents get mad at me too when I get bad grades (or even just one little B). Just do your best, that's what really counts. |

when in high school, grades do matter. but good grades are so objective. it really depends on how high of a standard you set for yourself. If you wanna go ivy league, you're gonna need almost a perfect score on the standardized tests that you take, and colleges do look at your hgh school GPA, because a friend of mine is extremely smart, he got awesome scores on his SATs and ACTs, but he slacked off in high school and only got decent grades, he got rejected from most of his top choices for colleges.
if you just want to go to a public school, you need decent/good grades, but outside activites do count a lot, but c'mon let's face it, grades are the major factor here. Even the public schools are getting so picky about gpas and test scores. if you just wanna hang at a community college, you only need a decent grade, the key is that those community colleges are pretty open to anyone, so those are the easiest to get into. It all depends on how much you want to achieve, but ivy league doesn't mean sh_t, i know a person that graduated from northwestern and he can't even find a job right now. A lot of other factors come into play, but it all depends on you and your capabilities. |
