I just started high school and my english teacher is teaching us about colleges, what we need to get in and that sort but also scholarships. So here is some info i got. This is from a Cosmgirl the March 2005 issue:
There are people out there who want to give you a scholarship or two. So find them- and claim your money! By Marina Khidekel -If paying for four years of college seems daunting, there's hope! Not only are there millions of dollars' worth of scholarships up for grabs, but you don't have to be a star athlete or valedictorian to earn them! Sixty-five percent of on-government scholarships don't even require a minimum GPA- and those that do usually set it as 2.9. What's most important to those who dole out scholarship money is finding students who have specific strengths, including yours, CG! So what are you waiting for? Here are the four steps to help you get your hands on that cash. Step #1 Create your scholarship Profile What is it was makes you special? How does your background, tlents, and intrests make you the ideal candidates? Knowing there things will set you on the track for college cash. -Organizations that give out scholarships look for students whose traits match their missions, which can be as diverse as helping minority artists to caring for Arabian horses. Your job: Find organisations with missions that align with your skills and make the case that your should be the one to win their cash. Step #2 Go National The big name, big-bucks national scholarships care more compertitive, but someone has to win them-why not you? Start your hunting with these Web sites and books -Sites: Scholarships.com, collegeanswer.com, fastweb.com, financialaid.com, review.com. Register on all of these using the profile info you created in Step 1, and these sites will e-mail you the details on how to apply for a list of national scholarships that you qualify for. (Note: It's free to register on all of these legitimate sites. Beware of sites that charge a fee- they might be a scam!) -The books: We recommend Get Free Cash for College, The Scholarship Handbook 2005, and How to Go to College Almost for Free- All should be available at your local library or bookstore. Step #3 Go Local You can find cash for sollege in your own backyard. Your odds of earning several local scholarships (which range from $500to $3,000) are promising if you do the legwork. Here's where to look: -your guidance counselor's office Ask for lists odd community-based awards. Many groups give info abour their scholarships to schools first so they can reach the most students. -your sity's athletic teams Pro sports teams often have foundations that sponsor scholarships for local students. Some prizes are for mom-athletes! -your town's buisnesses Google the names of buisnesses in your town and the word scholarship. Good bets are banks, insurance agencies, car dealerships, and local branches of chains like Target and Wal-Mart. -your locial library and supermarket Check bullein boards there for scholarships form local groups that don't widely publicize their prizeslike the Rotary club, and families who've establish memorial scholarships. Step #4 Go all out! Don't finish your search before doing some offbeat research. You want to make sure that no cash escapes your grasp! -Google away. Enter key words from your profile (like "Irish American" or "hockey") one at a times with your town's name and the word "scholarships." You might find awards that the search engines missed. -See who's won before. When applying for a scholarship, do a Web search or ask the organization for past winner's bios and essays. Use them to see the typpe of candidates the judges are looking for. P.S. Don't copy their essays- that will not win you the scholarships! -Make your college applications count. Schools use them to judge for admissions and scholarships! Visit each school's financial aid sit, find scholarships you qualify for, then mention them in your application. ![]() Xanga[/url] *note* formerly nani51 |

Hmm.
I found a few really generous scholarships for C++. I already know a bunch, but it requires grade 10 education, so I guess I will try next year. |

I started using fastweb about 2 years ago when this topic was made and Kate listed all that information, in my opinion it's the best site. It's definitely my favorite. |
