being able to extract images is really important when making a layout, banner, etc.
there are many techniques of doing this, but i prefer using the pen tool
first, find an image you want to extract
use mine if you want
now, select the pen tool
put in these settings
now, zoom in on your image. i usually zoom in 500% or so.
start making anchor points around the image you want to extract
dont make them too far apart, or else your extraction will look too rigid

i usually extract the whole image at once, but you dont have to
once you are done, it should look like this: (yes! a lot of anchor points)

you can close the path if you want to, but you dont have to
now, right click, and select "Make Selection"
put in these settings:
now, it should look like this:
now, select inverse (Ctrl+Shift+I)
now, the outside of the picture should be selected
press delete
now, you should have this: (almost done!)
as you can see, there are some places i missed
using the pen tool, get rid of those too.
