Pixeling is fun, easy, but also hard at the same time. One reason is because pixels are small, so you'll have to zoom in closely to make nice-looking pixel art. Another thing is that it will take a lot of layers, since it's different from using brushes, you'll have to lift up your fingers from the left clicking button several times. Making a mistake will be crucial, because you're limited on the "step backward" button. That's why creating many layers is important and hard. It'll take time to get use to making pixels, including to get the right size of the image you'll want. Let's begin!

Program used: PS 7
Difficulty: 2-5/10

First, go to file -> New...
Something will show up that includes changing the size of the canvas you'll use.

Copy the following.

11px x 11px is a small dimension, but you can change it to bigger sizes once you get used to make small pixels. (In the future, be aware of the size you choose though, especially if you're going to make smilies).

When you're done, click OK.

Enlarge, and then zoom in to the highest point; 1600%. (Ctrl + +). You can tell by what I've pointed to in red arrows.

Then, go to your tool bar that will on the left, and change your brush tool to the pencil tool if you haven't already.

We want a 1px brush, and in order to do that, go over to your image canvas -> right click -> scroll all the way up to see smaller brush sizes, if you haven't already.

Great! Now, create a layer by going to the layer box, whatever you call it, and click on the post-it-like image at the bottom.

Then, pick a color from the tool box. I would use black for starters.

Here we begin on creating pixels! Just click on the left button on your mouse onto the image canvas, and you'll create one pixel!

For beginners, go very slowly on a blank spot, and if you want to make it easier (yet harder..), do one pixel at a time, CONSTANTLY picking up your index finger -.-

Once you get used to it though, you can just make a straight line without picking up your fingers more than 1 time.

Now, I want to make a glass. So, I have to depend on the size. Let's say I made this line:

It's not exactly even for the width to balance, so I need to erase it! Follow the sequence...

That's just in case you made a mistake, even if you're not going to make a glass. Pixels need to be evened by width, and sometimes height.

Okay, now I will just use my pencil tool again, and draw the glass shape I want.

I finished my glass, but I did not use only one layer.

It depends on you what time to put another layer to make your image, and it also usually depends on how many mistakes you make while pixeling ^_^.

You're not exactly done, because you still have coloring to do.

Delete your background by clicking on the background layer -> right click -> delete layer -> click "Yes"

Then create a new layer on top of all the other layers.

Use your pencil tool again, but if you want, change your color. Just click on the color box thing, and a pop-up of different hues will show.

Pick a color from there, and click OK.

Start to color in the inside.

When you're done, it should look at this.

It's okay if you made a mistake and colored on the glass. (That's why making layers is important!)

Drag the color layer last on the layer box thing -.-

Sometimes it doesn't need to be all the way to the last..

Now it looks pretty! If you want, go crazy with the colors by using gradients, etc.

Save: File -> Save As... -> (make sure it's in GIF. form when you save!) -> blah.gif

Here's the finished product!
<--(without the extra colors).

Use your imagination, like how I used mine:
