Tutorial: [Custom Paint Your Car]
This is the first in a series on how to take a seemingly unattractive car and bend it to your will. Custom coloring is an easy way to begin "pimping" your ride. This 5 step tutorial shows you how.

1) First, let's open up a picture of the car we're gonna use. I'll use a Scion xB only because this tutorial is part of a series. Remember that you can do alot more with a 1996 Honda Civic than a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo. Why mess with a Lambo? Here's the picture:

2) Create a new layer. You can do this in the Layers Toolbar (Window --> Layers). Click the circle in the top right of the toolbar and hit "New Layer". Let's name it "Color".

3) Now select the "Polygonal Lasso" tool. With this, select the body of the car (what you want to color). It should look like this when you're done:

4) Make sure the layer "Color" is selected. Click Edit --> Fill --> and choose the color of your choice. Now, in the layers toolbar got owhere it says "Normal". Click the arrow next to it and click on "Soft Light". Your car should resemble this:

5) You're done! Here's what I came up with after deleting parts of the "Color" layer and tinting the windows using the polygonal lasso/ hue/ saturation tool (Ctrl+ U):

See? The Scion's starting to roll. Experiment with filling your "Color" layer with gradients and such. Next time we'll talk about lowering your car.

Gradient effects:
