Purpose: An alternative way to make images (black or white) have an old (paint-chipped) look. you can use the default effect but that is often too dark and colorless.

Step 1: Open the image you want to use. I'm using this image -

Step 2: Click (Image -> Greyscale) on the top toolbar.

Step 3: Click (Image -> Increase Color Depth -> 16 Million Colors)

Step 4: Click (Adjust -> Brightness and Contrast -> Gamma Correction) on the toolbar. Make sure that the (Link) box is unchecked. Change the numbers like this ->

Step 5: Select the (Preset Shape Tool) on the side bar, click the fill color -

Click pattern, press the arrow and go down to "Cracked Paint"

Step 6: Draw a square over your image then go to (Adjust -> Brightness and Contrast -> Gamma Correction) Press OK if you are promted to do anything then press OK on the Gamma Correction table. You won't need to change anything.

Step 7: Next change the opacity and blend mode on the Layer Palette on the side. Different blending techiniques give you different styles. I used "Burn" on my finished product.
