i neverfound any really good polaroid brushes, so then i learned how to make them on my own

first, find a picture that is a square. use mine if you want (if yours isn't a square, resize it)

now, once you open it up in photoshop, go to Image > Canvas size

increase the width by 30px, and the height by 50px
if you are using my picture (which is 250x250px) enter these settings

now it should look like this:

now, reposition the image so it looks like this

now, press Ctrl-E to merge the layers
then, press Ctrl-J to duplicate the layers
now, you should have something like this:

now, select the top layer and form a rectangular marquee around the image

press delete.

without deselecting, right click, and select stroke
put in these settings:

now, press Ctrl-A (select all), right click, and press stroke again. put in the same settings as above

now, right click the top layer in the layers menu, and click blending options

put in these settings

now, it should look something like this:

congrats on your polaroid picture x]
now, you can and text and effects
whoopee, have fun

That's cool. I actually think that is better than the polaroid brushes because they always look grungy and sometimes you want a more contemporary look.

It's a good tut - however, when I expand the canvas size and try to move the picture, it says it can't do it because the layer is locked. Any suggestions on what to do?

double click the layer, a screenshould come up with the layer name, you can leave the name or change it, click ok, and the layer unlocks.

that`s pretty cool. except it`s too one dimensional to look real.
any suggestions to make it more realistic?

you could use a bit of inner shadow on only the image.
