Tutorial: [Scanlines Tutorial]
Difficulty (out of 5): 1.5
In this tutorial I'll show you how to make three different types of scanlines. Make typical TV-style lines, diagonal lines, and a grid, just for kicks. This is a quick and easy tutorial.
Diagonal Scanline:
1) Create a new document. Width and height are both 3 px. Contents: Transparent.
2) Zoom in on the picture (Ctrl and +) until you are at the max zoom (1600%). Take the pencil tool and make the master diameter 1 pixel. With it, fill in the top right, middle, and bottom left of the image. It should look like this:

3) Edit --> Define Pattern. Name the pattern and you are done! Here's an example of what you could do with this pattern:
Horizontal "TV Lines":
1) Create a new document. Width: 1 px/ Height: 3 px. Contents: Transparent.
2) Zoom in again and select your pencil tool (B). Fill in ONLY the bottom most pixel. Example:
3) Edit --> Define Pattern. The name doesn't really matter. Here's an example of the finished result:
Grid Pattern:
1) Create a new document. Width: 5 px/ Height: 5 px. Contents: Transparent.
2) Zoom in, take out the pencil and make a cross pattern. When zoomed in, it'll look like this:
3) Edit --> Define Pattern. Now you are done! Here's what I did with the grid:
How to use a pattern:
1) Edit --> Fill. Select 'Pattern' from the drop-down menu. Now select your pattern and hit 'OK'. Adjust the opacity as needed.
